** Double Gold - 2009 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition; 91 points - Connoisseurs' Guide **

The name "Califa" means "most beautiful one" in a local native language, and each barrel of the vintage is tasted many times after fermentation to select the most opulent, terroir-driven wines for this designation.  The 2007 Califa Chardonnay boasts a ripe citrus nose with underlying notes of vanilla and toast from aromatic French oak that leads beautifully into a graceful palate of golden pear, pineapple and tangerine zest.  Balanced by the refreshing acidity, the lush and creamy mouthfeel lingers with hints of butterscotch and nutmeg.

"...expression of its deep and optimally ripened, sweet apple and peach fruit.  It is underpinned by fine balancing acids and has the kind of core richness that will keep it in good shape for a number of years." (Connoisseurs' Guide)
